The Sims 4: Adoption (Babies, Toddlers, Children and Pets)
The Sims 4 has all sorts of awesome features that can make your game more colourful and that includes the option to adopt both children, as well as cats and dogs! The Sims 4 adoption is an awesome way to really grow your little virtual family quickly and can make your family more fun to play with.
Adopting Babies, Toddlers, and Children
When your sims make the decision to adopt a child it is a relatively easy process to complete as long as you have §1,000. To make this happen you need to go to a computer in your household and click Household > Adopt and click the §1,000 option to adopt a child, as the less expensive options are for cats and dogs.
You can also click on your cell phone and go to “Hire a Service” and you’ll be able to find the Adopt a Child for §1,000 option under there as well.
You’ll then be shown a popup with every baby, toddler, and child that is currently available for adoption and these options change every few days. Once you’ve made your decision, you can click on whichever child you feel best suited to adopt and your sim will leave your lot for a little while and come back with the child.
When your sim arrives back at home you’ll be given the opportunity to change the child’s name to whatever you like, so don’t worry about the name of the children in the adoption process. Your sim will also be given a few days off work for parental leave if they choose to take it.
Now you’ve got a new young sim in your family to love and care for for the rest of its life, so be careful not to get that sim taken away by a social worker!
Adopting Cats and Dogs
If you have the expansion pack The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs, you also have the opportunity to adopt cats and dogs for only §200 per animal. You can have up to 7 animals in your home at once, with one sim that would make it 8 total people in the household, but that can get a little bit stressful.
Your sim has the chance to adopt up to 3 pets at one time (still §200 per pet) so you don’t have to keep calling the adoption service over and over again to get multiple pets.
When you click the adopt button on the computer or phone, you will be shown the available cats and dogs that you have the opportunity to adopt. Thankfully, you’ll also be able to see their gender, traits, and if they are neutered/spayed. This is nice because you can choose the best pet option for your household and not end up with an unruly animal that will take over your life. You can also adopt both puppies, adults or elder animals.
Once you’ve made a decision about which animal you wish to adopt a pet adoption agent will show up with a crate that will spawn on your lot. Before actually adopting the pet, you have the opportunity to introduce yourself to them and play with them for a little bit before actually adopting them.
Eventually, when clicking on the pet you’ll see an Adopt (§200) interaction pop up that will add the pet to your household. Just like with children, you will be given the option to change the name of your new pet, so don’t worry too much about their current name.
To get the adoption agent to leave after you’ve adopted the pet, you can click on them and click “End Adoption Evaluation” and the agent will swoop up the crate and leave your lot.
