The Sims 4: Baking Skill (Get to Work)

If you have sims who want to own a bakery or just want to create beautiful baked goods for their kids when they come home from school, the baking skill is for you! This skill came with The Sims 4: Get to Work and allows your sims to bake doughnuts, brownies, and so much more.

How to Gain the Baking Skill

There are 3 ways for you to gain the baking skill in The Sims 4. The first (and slowest) way to gain most skills is to read skill books that can be purchased by clicking on a bookcase or computer. These books gain the skills the slowest so it’s better to just put in the effort to actually bake.

The other ways to gain the skill involve actually baking. You can gain the skill by baking recipes on your sim’s oven, or by using the crazy giant cupcake factory that came with the game. It’s probably easier to just bake in your oven, but there are cupcake factory specific recipes to create if you have the space.

Ideal Emotion for Baking

Every single skill in The Sims 4 has an ideal emotion connected to it that helps you to earn the skill more quickly and create better quality items. The ideal mood for the baking skill is definitely inspired which you can get by taking a thoughtful shower as the easiest option.

Baking Skill Levels

There are 10 levels of the baking skill in The Sims 4 and as you gain levels of the skill you will unlock new recipes and abilities, plus the quality of your baked goods will improve.

Baking Skill Level 1

When a sim first starts gaining the baking skill they are going to have 3 recipes to try and bake on their kitchen oven including breadsticks, pre-mixed brownies, and sugar cookies. They are also going to have the ability to make 3 things on the cupcake factory including plain muffins, plain donuts, and donut holes.

Baking Skill Level 2

When your sim hits level 2 of the skill they are going to unlock some new recipes to create. On the oven they can now bake oatmeal cookies, cereal-marshmallow squares, bread, and fish pie. On the cupcake machine they can now bake cream tarts, powdered donuts and glazed donuts.

Baking Skill Level 3

At level 3 of the skill your sims can unlock the ability to decorate their baked goods, yay! They will also unlock some new recipes. On the oven this includes plain bagels, whole wheat loaf, fruit pie, blueberry bagels, peanut butter cookies, and onion bagels. On the cupcake factory you unlock two more recipes being fruit tarts and fruit muffins.

Baking Skill Level 4

When a sim gets to level 4 of the baking skill they unlock 4 new items to bake on the oven, including cheesy bread, sourdough loaf, everything bagels and sweet potato pie. On the cupcake factory you can now bake chocolate donuts, exotic fruit tarts, and mixed fruit tarts.

Baking Skill Level 5

At level 5 of the skill your sim is going to unlock a ton of new baking recipes. This includes carrot bread, lemon bars, carrot cake, spinach and mushroom quiche, potato bread, and spinach and onion quiche to be baked on the stove. They also unlock plain scones, jelly filled donuts, and cream filled donuts on the cupcake factory.

Baking Skill Level 6

Once a sim is able to reach level 6 they are going to unlock a few fancy recipes. This includes 3 things for the oven, fudge bars, exotic fruit pie and shepherd’s pie and 2 items for the cupcake factory, salmon croquettes and fruit scones.

Baking Skill Level 7

When your sim hits level 7 they will unlock the following on the stove, bread pudding, banana bread and banana cream pie. They will also unlock croissants, profiteroles and soft shell crab cakes on the cupcake factory.

Baking Skill Level 8

When your sim reaches level 8 of the skill they are going to be able to bake chocolate biscotti on the cupcake factory, and fruitcake, rainbow gelatin cake, and artisan herb bread on the oven.

Baking Skill Level 9

At level 9 your sim is almost done gaining the skill, and will unlock a bunch of new recipes. This includes lemon meringue pie and chocolate souffle on the oven. On the cupcake factory you get to make bacon wrapped donuts, cereal topped donuts, creme brulee, berry macaroons and voodoo doll donuts.

Baking Skill Level 10

When your sim finishes gaining the skill they get a few more recipes. This includes a lava bundt cake and cowplant essence meringue pie on the oven and eclairs and alien fruit tarts on the cupcake factory.

Decorating Your Baked Items

When your sim reaches level 3 of the skill they unlock the ability to decorate their baked goods. This doesn’t apply to all of them, but ones that can look great decorated!

It costs 10 simoleons for your sim to decorate them. What’s the point? Well, it will increase the quality of the item and will also increase the price people are willing to pay if you sell it at a bakery that you run.

Opening up a Bakery

Since you get access to the baking skill in The Sims 4: Get to Work you also get the option of running your own business in that pack, so you can open a bakery! You can purchase vending machines to put in a retail store or a refrigerated unit.

How to Bake a Birthday Cake

A common question from people who played old sims games is how do you bake a birthday cake? Well, annoying the answer is you don’t, you cook it!

The birthday cake option is actually under the cook category on the fridge or oven and not in the baking section. Your sim will not gain the baking skill through this, they will gain their cooking skill since this is something that comes with the base game, not the get to work expansion pack.

How to Cheat the Baking Skill

A lot of players don’t want to gain skills on their own, so thankfully the option to cheat a skill in The Sims 4. To cheat the baking skill you first want to enable cheats by hitting ctrl + shift + c on your keyboard and then type in testingcheats true and hit enter.

Then you want to enter in stats.set_skill_level major_baking X and fill the X spot with any number from 1-10 to give your sim that level of the skill.

For example, if you want to have level 5 of the skill you’ll want to enter stats.set_skill_level major_baking 5 and your sim will get level 5 of the skill.
