Horses are such a fun animal to have in your sim’s household, they’re beautiful, they’re silly and they’re fun. If you want to add a horse to your household you are going to need to know everything about caring for horses so let’s dig into everything about caring for their needs!
Things You Need for Horses

Since a horse is a living being, you need some things to keep it alive and keep it happy! There are four items that you can’t really live without when you have a horse which are:
- Hay Now! Big Ball
- This ball is what horses use to have fun! Everyone deserves to have some fun and watching them play with this ball is the cutest thing ever.
- Hay Now! Water Trough
- Horses get thirsty too, so this water trough is a must-have so they stay happy and healthy!
- Hay Now! Horse Bed
- Horses need to get some sleep, and a lot of the time they are going to just fall asleep anywhere on the ground, but having this place for them to sleep makes them feel better
- Hay Now! Animal Feeder
- This is probably the most important item on this list, because your horses need to be fed! You can fill this either by paying 30 simoleons or by harvesting prairie grass around the world.
How to See How Your Horse is Doing
Since horses are an animal that means they aren’t controllable and you can’t easily see their needs in a panel like with sims. However, it’s super easy to see how they’re doing by just hovering your mouse over your horse and you’ll see everything from their mood to their needs.

How to Fill Different Horse Needs
There are five different needs that your horses have that you need to worry about if you want a happy animal. These are energy, social, hunger, fun and hygiene. Each has different ways to get it full, but it’s actually really easy to make sure your horses are happy with a little bit of effort.
Energy Need
The easiest need to take care of for horses is the energy need because horses will often just drop on the ground or even fall asleep while standing anywhere they are. Even though they can sleep anywhere you want to still get them the Hay Now! Horse Bed so they have a designated area, it’s just the nice thing to do.

Social Need
Horses are social creatures just like sims, so make sure they are getting enough socialization. They are able to gain the social need with both sims and other animals, especially horses. I like to have at least two horses at a time so they can keep their social need up together without my sim needing to do all the work.

If you only have one horse you’ll need to do lots of social interactions throughout the day between the horse and sims in your household. This is important because it will help to increase the temperament skill for your horse which helps a ton because they’ll be a lot more positive in social interactions with a high temperament.
Hunger Need
All horses are going to get hungry throughout the day, and there are a couple ways that you can feed them. The first is to add the prairie grass lot challenge to your sim’s lot, this will grow wild prairie grass around and your horses will sometimes graze on this to eat.
The second way to feed a horse is to feed them fruits or vegetables by hand, which is a great way to bond with the animal. The final way is to fill up the Hay Now! Animal Feeder and have it in your horse’s area and they will eat whenever they are hungry.

If you have any baby horses in your sim’s house you’ll need to bottle feed them until you are able to teach them to eat from the animal feeder.
Hygiene Need
There are a bunch of ways you can improve your horse’s hygiene need and all should be done everyday. The first thing is making sure that you are cleaning the horses bed and cleaning up any manure that may be laying around. You don’t want your horses spending time around poo!
Then you have the active things you can do to your horse which are brushing their coat and cleaning their hooves. These interactions are so cute to watch too!

Fun Need
Just because horses are an animal doesn’t mean they don’t get bored! If your horses fun need is low you should click on the Hay Now! Big Ball and encourage the horse to play with it. However, depending on their mood and traits they may decide to be defiant.

That’s everything you need to know about caring for a horse in The Sims 4: Horse Ranch! They are just so fun to play with and I’m obsessed with how they play with that ball, can’t get over it.
