What is the Sweater Curse in The Sims 4: Nifty Knitting?
In the livestream reveal for The Sims 4: Nifty Knitting, we learned that there isn’t a new death but Sim Guru Conor said there’s something that almost worse but wasn’t able to show us this “sweater curse” in the stream and told us to google it to get a small idea of what this could be.
Well, according to Wikipedia “The “sweater curse” or “curse of the love sweater” is a term used by knitters to describe the belief that if a knitter gives a hand-knit sweater to a significant other, it will lead to the recipient breaking up with the knitter.”
Of course after reading this I was intrigued and the second I got my hands on Nifty Knitting I needed to know exactly what this meant. So, I created a cute young couple and turned my female sim into a knitter until she was able to give her boyfriend a knitted sweater.
When I gifted this sweater, he didn’t really seem to like it and both sims ended up with a 7 day moodlet that made them both tense from the sweater curse.
When this moodlet is active, any romantic interactions that happen between the two sims are going to go horribly. This will cause them to actually lose relationship starting with their romance bar, and then their friendship will also decrease if you keep doing romantic interactions.
These sims pretty much can just be friends for the next 7 days if they want to stay together. It can ruin marriages rather quickly so please be careful!
The Forbidden Sweater
If you have a sim who has finished the knitting aspiration they have access to knitting the forbidden sweater and can actually gift this sweater to other sims and there is a chance they can also get the sweater curse put on them.
How to Get Rid of the Sweater Curse
Thankfully there is one way that you can reverse the sweater curse from your sims. First, you are going to need to find a sim who has the sacred knitting knowledge trait and get them to click on your sim and reverse the curse for you!

It is important to know that the sweater curse exists so that we can make sure that your sims relationships don’t get completely ruined by a gifted sweater. Maybe try gifting socks, everybody likes socks, right? Happy Playing!
