Burglars were both my most and least favourite things in old games. They would always come at the worst time and steal something like the fridge when my sims had no money to replace it, they were so dramatic.

I was so excited when EA announced that these little jerks would be returning to the game but you need to know how to make sure they don’t get away with any of your stuff, so here’s your guide on how to stop burglars in The Sims 4.

How to Know When Burglars Are Here

When a burglar arrives at your lot you’ll see them walk right up to the front of your lot. When this happens you’ll get one of those scary bright orange notifications alerting you that a burglar is here.

How to Prepare for Burglars

If you want to be prepared for when a burglar arrives at your sim’s house you need to get the alarm system in your house. This is going to alert your entire family and wake everyone up from their slumber so that you can stop these jerks in action.

The Alertz Burglar alarm has a few things you can add to it to make it better depending on your sim’s handiness level.

• Police Link Security Upgrade (Level 3): Automatically calls the police when the alarm is triggered
• Take That! Shock Upgrade (Level 5): Shocks the burglar when alarm is triggered which forces them to drop any items they’ve stolen from you
• Robustify Inner Workings (Level 7): Makes it less likely that your alarm will break
• Perfect Inner Workings: Makes it so the alarm never breaks

The best thing to do is get that police link upgrade so your sims can just freak out in peace without having to make a phone call.

How to Stop Burglars in Action

Once you know that a burglar has arrived you have a few options, the first is to call the police if you’re fast enough. Obviously you’d want to have installed the alarm and gotten the upgrades so make sure this happen automatically, but if that hasn’t happened yet you can still call them yourself.

To call the police you can click on your sim’s phone, then the home icon and call police station and the police will be there soon.

If you want to take matters into your own hands you can click on the burglar and either choose to confront the burglar or you can fight them. If you’re successful they will run away, but your sims mood and skills may make it so they still steal your stuff.

The best option is definitely to get that alarm and install the police upgrade!
