The Sims 4: How to Change Your Sim’s Traits (With and Without Cheats)

Sometimes when you are playing The Sims 4 you’ll find that your sims traits no longer make sense for your storytelling and gameplay. Thankfully, there are two ways to change a sim’s traits in the game so you can have a different experience.

Re-Traiting Potion

The first way to change your sim’s traits is to use a re-traiting potion that can be purchased from the satisfaction points reward store.

This potion was added in a patch in June of 2018 and allows you to completely change your sim’s personality.

You’ll need to have 5,000 satisfaction points to purchase this potion which is quite a few but it can be worth it.

Once purchased the potion will be in your sim’s inventory. You can click on the item in your inventory and a pop-up will appear and will prompt you to change personality traits and you can choose all 3 traits brand new.

Full Edit Mode Cheat

If you don’t feel like waiting for your sim to have 5,000 satisfaction points you can also cheat to change your sim’s traits. To do this, you’ll need to use the cas full edit mode cheat.

This cheat allows you to change everything about a sim, including their aspiration, traits, and their entire appearance.

To use this you first need to enable cheats by opening up the cheat dialogue box by hitting ctrl + shift + c on your keyboard and typing in testingcheats true and hitting enter to enable cheats.

Then, you’ll need to type in the cheat cas.fulleditmode in the cheats console. You can then hold down shift and click on whatever sim you want to change the traits of and choose edit in CAS.

Create a sim will then open and you’ll have full control to change everything about your sim.

Final Thoughts

There is no shame in changing some traits once in a while, sims are just annoying when they are stagnant and boring throughout life. Go out there and change everything in The Sims 4, happy playing!
