The Sims 4: DJ Mixing Skill (Get Together)
The DJ Mixing skill was added to the game with The Sims 4: Get Together which was the second expansion pack in the series. This pack added a ton of fun things to do with your friends including fun clubs to go to where you can listen to a DJ or become one yourself.
The DJ mixing skill is a fun skill where you can create mix tapes, get people excited and start dancing, and feel cool as heck.
How to Gain The DJ Mixing Skill
The DJ Mixing skill only has one way to earn it and that is to actually starting DJing. You aren’t able to gain the skill through skill books that you can purchase like most other skills. You are going to need to get your hands on a DJ Booth which you can find in the build catalog to place in your home, or you can go to a public club lot in Windenburg and they will have a DJ Booth.
When you want to start learning the skill you are going to want to click on the DJ Booth and practice to start learning the skill. Eventually, as you get higher in the skill you will gain different abilities.
Levels of The DJ Mixing Skill
There are 10 levels of the DJ Mixing skill for your sim to gain. As you keep gaining the skill you are going to unlock new abilities and upgrades you can make to the DJ Booth.
DJ Mixing Level 1
At the very first level of the skill, the only ability you are going to have is to practice on the DJ booth.
DJ Mixing Level 2
When you get to level 2 of the DJ Mixing skill you are going to unlock two new music genres: Machine and Groovin.
DJ Mixing Level 3
At level 3 of the skill you are going to unlock the Chip Tune genre of music and be able to discuss DJ techniques with other sims.
DJ Mixing Level 4
When you reach level 4 of the skill you are going to unlock the chill out genre.
DJ Mixing Level 5
A sim who reaches level 5 of this skill will unlock the break beats genre to play.
DJ Mixing Level 6
At level 6 of the skill you will unlock the ability to start upgrading your booth with the first two upgrades: Dynamic Surge Protection and Advanced Heat Sink. You’ll also be able to play remixed and use the get hyped interaction.
DJ Mixing Level 7
At level 7 your sim will be able to play the house music genre on the DJ booth. They will also unlock two new upgrades, the Particle Generators and Plasma Display.
DJ Mixing Level 8
At level 8 of the skill they are going to unlock the telesplosion upgrade and the hip hop genre. Finally, you are going to be able to start writing your own mix tapes to license for money.
DJ Mixing Level 9
When you are at level 9 of the DJ Mixing skill you are going to unlock two new mix tape types and also unlock the drum and bass genre.
DJ Mixing Level 10
When a sim reaches level 10 of the skill they have gotten to the highest level of the skill and can now make new types of mixed tapes. They are also going to unlock the CAS assets Robo Helmet in addition to being able to play a music genre called The Noise.
How to Cheat The DJ Mixing Skill
With all skills in The Sims 4, there are skill cheats that you can use to fast forward your progress. Before you can put the DJ Mixing skill cheat in you need to first enable cheats by hitting ctrl + shift + c on your keyboard and type in testingcheats true and hit enter. The game will let you know that cheats are enabled.
Then you are going to want to type in the skill cheat by typing in stats.set_skill_level major_djmixing X and you will replace the x in the cheat with any number between 1 and 10 to choose which level of the skill you’d like. For example, if you’d like level 5 of the skill you can type in stats.set_skill_level major_djmixing 5 and hit enter to get level 5.
Releasing Mix Tapes
When your sim is at level 8 of the skill you a re going to unlock the ability to start creating your own mix tapes. This is around an 8 hour project so it is a decent investment of time for your sim. Once you are done with your mix tape you can go to the mailbox and choose to license your song which means you’ll make royalties every day at 10 am for the week.
Annoyingly, this licensing system works exactly the same as with guitar or violin where you are only able to license one song per week meaning the royalties won’t stack like they do with writing. This makes it so you can’t make a decent income from DJ Mixing in The Sims 4 which isn’t cool, but that’s just the way it works.
Earning Tips
When you are playing music on the DJ Booth in any public area, you are able to play for tips to earn an income from other sims. As you play random sims will come up giving you tips around $20 at a time until you stop playing. You won’t make a living with this, but you can earn a bit of extra money on weekends doing this.
Upgrading Your DJ Booth
If you really want to maximize your experience with the DJ Skill in the game you want to make sure you upgrade your booth. You’ll need to have started gaining the handiness skill so you are able to purchase some upgrade parts, however, you don’t need to have a high handiness skill to do these upgrades.
You’ll unlock more upgrades the further in your DJ Mixing skill you are. There are 6 total upgrades you are able to perform on the DJ Booth:
- Advanced Heat Sink: Prevents Fires
- Dynamic Surge Protection: Prevents DJ Booth from Breaking
- Plasma Generators: Adds Laser Lights
- Plasma Display: Makes the DJ Booth Display More Attractive
- Special Effects: Adds Fog Machine, Lights and More
- Telesplosion: Causes Televisions Near The Booth to React to Music
Final Thoughts
This skill may not be the most exciting one in the game, and you can’t really use it to make money long term, but it can be a good amount of fun to play around with once or twice. It is pretty fun to go in and play your DJ skills at a club. Happy Playing!
