What is The Sims 4 Free Build Cheat?
The enable free build cheat is a simple and useful build cheat that allows you to fully edit buildings that are not normally editable. You’ll find that there are buildings that need to function in specific ways and need certain items no matter what, so the sims team makes these buildings non-edit friendly.
For example, the dorms that your sims can live in while at University aren’t able to be edited without this cheat because the other people living there need specific items to make sure that they function properly.
This gives you the ability to add almost anything to these lots as long as you follow the specific lot requirements. Like how you need to have a specific bed count and shower count for dorms.
How to Enable Cheats
Before you are able to use many of the cheats in The Sims 4 you need to make sure that you’re enabling cheat codes first. This is a simple cheat code that tells the game that you have the intention to play with cheats and it’ll make sure that they’ll work.
You’ll first want to open up the cheat dialogue box with a set of commands depending on where you’re playing:
- PC: ctrl + shift + c
- Mac: command + shift + c
- Console: all four triggers
When you use these you’ll see the cheat box open up and you’ll want to type in testingcheats true and hit enter. Then the game will pop this box open and let you know that cheats are enabled and you’re free to use any of your favourite cheats in this dialogue box.
Using The Sims 4 Free Build Cheat
Once you’ve remembered to enable your favourite cheat codes you’ll then get to type in this sims 4 free build cheat. Once you’ve entered the lot you wish to edit you’ll want to type in bb.enablefreebuild and hit enter.
The great thing about this cheat code is that the game will let you know if the cheat code worked by popping open the cheat box and saying free build mode is enabled.
Now that you’ve enabled this cheat you can go into build mode and do almost whatever you want. Why not delete all the living room furniture in a University dorm and replace it with a statue of Bob Pancakes?

demolish the homes on the lots then go into the library and add some homes you like. Its the only way. I add sims from the in game library as well, but nothing about lots yet I guess.

You get a cc called « world of wip » which erase and replace every lot in the world and allows you to build whatever you want on them.

I have quit game without saving. When I opened again bb.showhiddenobjects cheat was off. Now I’m going to try again but I’ll copy the save file first, then quit the game saving it while the cheat was on. I’ll let you know.

I am interested in houses that surround the current lot that you can’t see, until you are on the lot you want to build on/play. Is there a cheat to unlock those houses, in order to save them?
No. Those aren’t actually houses or lots. They are just visual assets the sims team made to make the world look more populated whilst being able to run with very little resources (they were originally intending the game to be playable online with others and only at the very last minute did they realize that they couldn’t finish that idea in time which is why a lot of the game is very basic).
What you can do is find some of them in the debug cheat options – the cheat for the liveeditmode objects has some of the fake houses (not all of them I don’t think) and whilst they aren’t proper objects and can be walked through, you can place them on a lot sized down and use them as a reference to build something similar. Or place them on a lot next to the one you are working on in full size if that makes it easier to see.
Its honestly really annoying to me that they filled the world with fake houses which look amazing and then there are like 3 lots to build on near them. 🙁 I grew up playing Sims 1 and Sims 2 where you can place lots anywhere you want to and really wish we had that in the Sims 4 with the newer build tools.

I have PS4 and I just did exactly what it said. as long as you know how to get the cheats bar you should be able to type in the same thing.
is this cheat also supposed to work for apartments in city living ?
So I spent weeks (literally, well on and off) building an apartment complex that I built in San Myshuno at Myshuno Meadows Center Park for the PS4 Sims 4 platform; using the enable free build cheat. Towards the end of my build I started getting error CE-34878-0. It started out coming once every hour or so, and then it came more frequent every five mins. I started saving more and more. I managed to finally get it uploaded to the gallery and it only appears as generic…I can’t change it to anything but generic. Not to residential not to anything. When trying download it to a residential lot using the free build cheat it comes in partial and slow and then starts to show a lot of question marks as though i’m using a lot of CC from a PC and then it crashes showing the same CE-34878-0 error. I have tried everything. Everything from saving under a different game. Bulldozing the lot, trying a new game with new SIM. Deleting the game. Initializing the PS4 reinstalling the SIMS game, etc. And the something happens over and over again. How do I change the lot type to residential from generic. This seems like a myth among SIMmers that has never been fixed for all time.

I tried it and not only did it not let me place the wall I wanted, but it completely erased my household inventory, so my Sim’s urn, her diplomas and photos, EVERYTHING was gone.
