The Sims 4: Hot Tubs and How to Use Them
Hot tubs are an awesome gameplay item in The Sims 4 that were originally only available in The Sims 4: Perfect Patio Stuff but a hot tub was added to the base game with The Sim’s 20th Anniversary update for all players to enjoy.
Hot tubs are great because they are a fun place for your sims to hangout or even woohoo if they’re feeling frisky.

Hot Tub Woohoo
When hot tubs were added to the game with The Sims 4: Perfect Patio Stuff we also got a brand new woohoo location. There are a ton of woohoo locations in The Sims 4 and you can watch this video if you want to see them all *currently up to The Sims 4: Eco Lifestyle*.
Hot Tub Upgrades
Like most plumbing objects in The Sims 4, you are able to upgrade a hot tub in the game in 3 different ways. These upgrades can really help your sims enjoy the hot tub more, or make it impossible for the object to break.
The first upgrade is the aromatherapy upgrade that is available at level 3 handiness that lets you add oils that can change your sim’s moods.
The second upgrade for the hot tub is available when your sim is at level 5 handiness and is the stereo upgrade that will allow your sim to listen to music while they are inside the hot tub.
Finally, your sim is able to make their hot tub completely unbreakable when they are at level 8 of the handiness which is convenient because fixing items can be a nuisance.
Aromatherapy in the Hot Tub
If you have a sim with level 3 of the handiness skill they are able to upgrade the hot tub to have aromatherapy. This allows you to add oils that will give your sims +2 moodlets allowing you to influence their moods. These moodlets will last a few hours depending how long your sims plan on staying in the hot tub. There are four types of aromatherapy that you can use.

| Peppermint Oil | The peppermint oil will give your sim a +2 Playful Moodlet and can help eliminate uncomfortable moodlets. |
| Sage Oil | A sage oil is going to give your sim a +2 Focused Moodlet and can help to stop your sims from being bored. |
| Lemon Oil | The lemon oil will give your sim a +2 Energized Moodlet and can help you to remove tense moodlets. |
| Jasmine Oil | This oil gives you a +2 Happy Moodlet and can decrease the duration of a sad moodlet. |
There is even a little easter egg in this pack where a sim who has level 10 mischief skill, gotten to level 10 of the criminal career, and has the mean or evil trait can add a special type of oil to the hot tub called Thioacetone which is actually known to be the worst smelling chemical in the world.
When this is added to a hot tub it will create a horrible smell and every sim in the neighbourhood will get an uncomfortable moodlet from the smell.
Fun Hot Tub Facts
There are a ton of small details about hot tubs that you can do that are fun details for you to enjoy. You can read a few of them in this blog post written by Sim Guru Graham but let’s go over them here too!
The first thing is that the hot tubs allow up to 8 sims to hangout inside the hot tub at one time, including children and teens. It’s nice that kids aren’t ignored with this gameplay objects like many others.
These hot tubs are great because each side of the hot tub is an entrance so you can place it against fences, walls, in basements and much more.
Sims are able to watch TV when they are in the hot tub if you have one nearby, allowing you to watch movies if you have The Sims 4: Movie Hangout Stuff or just television if you want. Sims are also able to bring drinks into the hot tub for a really rocking party.
Finally, sims are able to go skinny dipping in the hot tub if they feel like being a bit adventurous.
Final Thoughts
Although it is annoying that the team added hot tubs to the base game (essentially making perfect patio useless) they are still an awesome gameplay object that are fun to play in and add a new woohoo location making them a great addition to the game!
