The Sims 4: Archaeology Skill (Jungle Adventure)
The archaeology skill came with The Sims 4: Jungle Adventure and most of the skill is gained out in the world of Selvadorada. You’ll definitely need to spend some time on vacation in this world, since we can’t actually live in this world, so be prepared to spend money on vacations.
How to Gain the Archaeology Skill
This skill is gained in a few different ways. The first way is to read skill books about archaeology but reading skill books is always the slowest way to gain a skill. You can purchase these books by clicking on a bookshelf.
The better way to gain the archaeology skill is to go out into the world of Selvadorada and start looking for artifacts. You’ll be able to do this by finding dig piles throughout the world and eventually establishing your own excavation sites.
Once you’ve collected some artifacts from these dig sites you’ll be able to bring them to an archaeology table either in your home or in the world and you can authenticate artifacts at this table to keep gaining the skill.
Also, once your sim has reached level 2 of the skill they will be able to study art or study artifacts to gain the skill in an easier way.
Archaeology Skill Levels
Archaeology Skill Level 1
When your sim first starts gaining the archaeology skill they will be able to use dig piles or already established excavation sites to try and find artifacts.
Archaeology Skill Level 2
Once your sim reaches level 2 of the skill you’ll be able to study art or study artifacts to gain the archaeology skill without having to participate in a dig. Your sim even has a chance of becoming focused during this.
Archaeology Skill Level 3
At level 3 of the archaeology skill your sim will unlock the ability to authenticate artifacts that they have found in a dig pile or excavation site on the archaeology table.
Archaeology Skill Level 4
When a sim reaches level 4 of the skill they are going to have the ability unlocked to survey for dig piles. You can do this by clicking on the ground throughout the world and choose to survey to find out the location of these dig piles.
Archaeology Skill Level 5
At level 5 of the skill your sims are able to analyze artifacts, fossils, and treasures on the archaeology table. They will also now have the ability to get elements from crystals or metals on the table.
Archaeology Skill Level 6
When your sim reaches level 6 of the skill they are going to be able to establish their own excavation sites, which can allow other sims to help you work on these sites as well, making it easier to find objects.
Archaeology Skill Level 7
Once your sim reaches level 7 they are going to be able to refine crystals on the archaeology table.
Archaeology Skill Level 8
Once at the 8th level of the archaeology skill your sims unlock the ability to write a book about archaeology on the computer. Other sims are able to grab this book when it is finished and read it to gain the skill without having to purchase multiple skill books.
Archaeology Skill Level 9
When your sim reaches level 9 of the skill they are kind of a big deal in the archaeology sims community. This means that the wonderful Sir Vincent Skullfinder of the Simsonian Institute will start sending your sims packages in the mail to authenticate on your archaeology table.
Archaeology Skill Level 10
When your sim maxes out the archaeology skill they can given an archaeology lecture and will start finding high quality artifacts when going through dig piles or excavation sites.
How to Cheat the Archaeology Skill
If you don’t want to put in the effort to gain the skill on your own, and would rather just cheat it, that’s always an option! You can cheat this skill by first enabling cheats by hitting ctrl + shift + c on your keyboard and typing in testingcheats true and hitting enter.
Then you’ll want to type in stats.set_skill_level major_archaeology X and fill the X at the end with whatever level of the skill you’d like your sim to have. For example, if you want level 5 it would be stats.set_skill_level major_archaeology 5 and you’d get level 5.
How to Find Artifacts
The whole purpose of archaeology is finding artifacts and trying to uncover interesting objects. You’ll be able to find these artifacts by finding dig piles around the world and digging up things.
You’ll then get these objects in your sim’s inventory and have to take them to an archaeology table to authenticate them.
Things You’ll Find in Dig Piles
When you are digging in a dig pile or an excavation site that you have established you’ll find a ton of different objects. These objects include the following:
- Bone Dust
- Relic Pieces
- Fossils
- Knives
- Clumps of Dirt
- Unauthenticated Artifacts
Surveying Dig Piles
Once your sim reaches level 4 of the skill they are going to get the ability to survey for dig piles so you can find them more quickly. When you do this you can click on the ground and choose to survey and at random places new dig piles will appear for you to dig.
Creating Excavation Sites
Creating an excavation site is way better than just digging at a dig pile. This is because it has a higher chance of finding artifacts, and can also be dug by more than one sim at a time which is awesome if you have more than one sim on a vacation at a time.
You can click on the ground to establish an excavation site and a small box will appear allowing you to dig there.
Final Thoughts
The archaeology skill isn’t the most valuable in regular everyday gameplay, but it can be a really fun skill to explore to change up your gameplay. Happy playing!
