The Sims 4: Piano Skill Guide
The piano skill is a base game skill where your sims can become a master musician. It goes right along with the entertainer career and can make your sims some side money through playing for tips or licensing songs to earn some decent royalties each week.
How to Gain the Piano Skill
There are a few ways that you can gain the piano skill in The Sims 4. The first and slowest way is to read a piano skill book. These books can be purchased at the computer or a bookcase and there are 3 levels of these books for your sims to read. However, this really will be the slowest way for your sims to gain the skill.
The next way is, of course, to play the piano. You can practice to gain the skill in early levels or eventually play specific types of music.
If your sim has reached level 2 of the piano skill they are able to do piano research on the computer. You won’t gain a ton of skill this way but you can get a little bit, and every bit helps.
Finally, your sims who are at level 5 of the skill unlock the ability to listen and learn where they will listen to someone who has a higher piano skill while they play and gain skill this way.
Ideal Mood for the Piano Skill
The emotion system in The Sims 4 can be used in a number of ways, including making your sims gain skills more quickly or produce higher quality art. A sim who wants to play piano should spend this time feeling inspired.
The easiest way to feel inspired is to just go and take a thoughtful shower. That way your sim won’t be stinky and will also feel inspired for a few hours. You can also research piano on the computer once you reach level 2 of the skill to gain an inspired moodlet.
Levels of the Piano Skill
There are 10 levels of the piano skill and as your sim increases their skill they will unlock new types of songs they can play, as well as some new abilities like writing songs, playing for tips, and licensing their music.
Piano Skill Level 1
When a sim first starts gaining the piano skill they only have the ability to practice piano or read the first level of the piano skill book.
Piano Skill Level 2
A sim who has level two of the skill they are going to get a new interaction where they can rhapsodize about piano sonatas with other sims. They are also going to be able to appreciate classical music on any stereo and gain the skill through researching piano on the computer which can make your sims feel inspired.
Piano Skill Level 3
At level 3 of the skill your sims unlock the ability to pluck for inspiration that will make your sims feel inspired and they also unlock a new song type, traditional songs.
Piano Skill Level 4
When you’re at level 4 of the skill your sim will unlock the ability to play blues songs and play concerto.
Piano Skill Level 5
When at level 5 of the skill your sim is going to unlock the ability to play romantic songs as well as the ability to listen and learn to a sim who has a higher piano skill than they do so they can learn from others.
Piano Skill Level 6
At level 6 of the skill your sim is going to be able to serenade others with their piano knowledge to gain some romance, and will unlock the ability to play post bob songs.
Piano Skill Level 7
When your sim hits level 7 of the skill they are going to be able to play latin songs and will unlock the ability to promise to dedicate song to someone who you have a romantic interest in.
Piano Skill Level 8
Your sim will now have the ability to play ragtime songs and jazz up the place. The most exciting thing at this level is that your sim can now write songs on the piano.
Piano Skill Level 9
At level 9 of the skill your sims can now play classical songs and also license songs that they have written.
Piano Skill Level 10
When your sim reaches level 10 they have mastered the skill and can now play avant garde songs. They also have the ability to mentor other sims in this skill.
How to Cheat the Piano Skill
If you no longer want to work for the skill you have the ability to cheat it. First you want to enable cheats by hitting ctrl + shift + C on your keyboard and type in testingcheats true and hit enter.
Then you can enter the cheat stats.set_skill_level major_piano 10 and hit enter. This will max out the skill, you can change the number 10 to whatever level you want by just changing the number.
How to Write Songs
When a sim reaches level 8 of the skill they are going to unlock the ability to write songs on the piano. This interaction will take a few hours or your sim’s time but will be well worth it.
How to License Songs
Once you’ve finished a song on the piano you’ll see the finished song in your sim’s inventory and if you’re at level 9 you’ll be able to license that song to earn daily royalties.
To do this you want to click on the mailbox and choose to license, it will open up a box where you can choose your finished song. You can only license one song at a time and each license lasts about a week.
Your sim is going to be paid anywhere from 100-1000 simoleons per day and these royalties will be paid each day at 10 am. This isn’t the best way to make money but can be a nice addition to the money your sim can make in the entertainer career.
Mentoring Others in Piano
When a sim reaches level 10 of the piano skill they are able to mentor another sim in the skill. To do this you want to have another sim playing the piano and you can have your sim click on them and choose mentor this will help the sim who is playing the piano gain the skill more quickly.
Playing for Tips
Another way to earn money with the piano is to play for tips. When your sim reaches level 4 of the skill they can play any piano in a public area and choose play for tips. You can add pianos to public lots in build mode to make this happen. You can easily earn a few hundred simoleons by playing for tips for a few hours.
Using Piano for Romance
Music is a very romantic thing and can increase your romantic relationships with others. There are two things your sims can do with romance, the first is to serenade a sim which will give the other sim a flirty moodlet allowing you to get in their and flirt after the fact more easily.
The second thing is that you can promise to dedicate a song to another sim who you are romantically interested in which will give the other sim a flirty moodlet as well.
