The Sims 4: Knitting Skill Guide

The knitting skill was added to the game in July of 2020 when we got The Sims 4: Nifty Knitting which was the second community voted stuff pack. This pack added a plopsy store that is like etsy, and some fun clothing and objects for your sims to create with their own hands.

Ideal Mood for the Knitting Skill

Since the focus of The Sims 4 is on your sim’s emotions, there are ideal emotions for each skill. Since knitting is a creative skill the ideal emotion is inspired which can easily be done by taking a thoughtful shower.

Being inspired while knitting will lead to gaining the skill a little bit quicker and also crafting higher quality items that can be sold for more money.

Traits That Help The Knitting Skill

Creative

Since inspired is the ideal mood for the knitting skill, being creative is the best trait to have a sim have. This is because creative sims are going to be inspired more often.

Perfectionist

A sim with the perfectionist trait will take a bit longer to complete things like knitting items, but they will create things of higher quality more often.

Marketable

You may also want to choose to purchase the marketable reward trait with your satisfaction points. This makes it so your sim’s crafted items (knitting, painting, woodworking, etc) are worth more money when sold.

How to Increase the Knitting Skill

To get your sim started with the knitting skill they are going to need to purchase a yarn basket. This basket can be placed in the world and then put into your sim’s inventory. You can then click on it and choose to knit different objects.

You are able to work on more than one project at a time, and to resume one you can click on your basket and click to resume a project. If you want to stop working on a certain project you can click on frog and this will get rid of the project and give you back a bit of the money you spent to start knitting it.

The only way to gain the skill is through knitting, so you’ll be spending a lot of time knitting away with your sims.

Knitting Skill Levels

When you’re in the first level of the knitting skill your sim is going to be able to create beanies that look like bears and tigers and are super cute.

Knitting Skill Level 10

When your sim maxes out the skill they unlock the ability to mentor any sim who is knitting. They can also make the children’s toys.

If you want to just cheat the knitting skill you can! Type ctrl + shift + c and then hit enter then type in testingcheats true to enable all cheat codes. Then you want to type in stats.set_skill_level major_knitting X and fill the X with whatever level of the skill you want your sim to have, probably level 10!

Places to Knit

One nice thing about the knitting skill is that your sims are able to do it almost anywhere. They can knit in any chair that isn’t slotted to a counter or table, including couches, lounge chairs, and rocking chairs.

They are also able to knit on the side of the pool, on the toilet, and sitting on a bed. There are so many options!

Teach to Knit Interaction

When your sim reaches level 5 of the knitting skill they are going to unlock the ability to teach other sims to knit. You can do this to any age sims, including children which allows kids to gain the knitting skill while you teach them which is awesome!

Selling on Plopsy

An awesome thing about The Sims 4: Nifty Knitting is that in addition to the knitting skill they also added an Etsy-inspired store that you can sell items on called Plopsy. The process is pretty easy, but can be confusing for a first try.

Thankfully, we have an entire article on plopsy and how you can sell on plopsy. You can learn more by reading that article here!

Final Thoughts

The knitting skill is great for any creative sim who wants to work from home and sell on plopsy, or start a knittable decorations store in conjunction with The Sims 4: Get to Work. You can also use this as a fun hobby for after work and weekends for a busy sim who needs a creative outlet, the options are endless!
