The Sims 4: Outdoor Enthusiast Aspiration

Becoming an outdoor enthusiast in The Sims 4 is pretty easy, but will involve some vacations to Granite Falls where your sims will spend their time in the great outdoors.

This aspiration is perfect for sims who love to fish, are great with bugs, and are willing to sleep in a tent. You better get your sleeping bag ready and head to the forrest.

Traits That Help The Aspiration

Every aspiration in The Sims 4 has specific traits that will make the aspiration easier to obtain or just make sure your sims are in a better mood while working through it. There are a few that may help with the outdoor enthusiast aspiration.

Loves the Outdoors

The absolute best choice for this aspiration is going to be loves the outdoors, obviously this don’t need much of an explanation. A sim with this trait is going to have a better time hanging out outside and will get a positive moodlet when doing so.

Loner

Loner may be another good choice since your sim may go off and explore Granite Falls alone, however, there are going to be other sims around so that may make them tense.

Survivalist Reward Trait

Once your sim has completed this aspiration they are going to be rewarded with the survivalist reward trait. This is a fun trait for people who are going to want to go on vacations to Granite Falls often.

These sims are going to have a better time when living off the land and going camping where their fun will usually stay higher than sims without this trait. Not the most useful trait, but if you want to have someone live off the land it can be fun.

Stages of the Aspiration

Level One: Greenhorn

  • Harvest 10 Unidentified Plants
  • Catch 5 Fish in Granite Falls

To harvest unidentified plants you’ll need to go around granite falls and find wild plants on the ground that you have yet to identify. These will be marked as wild and this can be easily completed on your first day in the falls by just going on a long walk.

You’ll need to also catch fish in Granite Falls which can be done at any body of water at one of the fishing locations shown by a small fishing sign beside it. You’ll be able to catch fish easily as you grow your fishing skill.

Level Two: Forest Scout

  • Achieve Level 4 of Herbalism
  • Cook 2 Plates of Beetles over a Campfire
  • Eat 10 Plants

The herbalism skill was added with the outdoor retreat pack and is a huge part of this aspiration. You’ll be able to gain this skill through reading herbalism skill books (the slowest way to earn the skill) or you can go for a more hands on approach by harvesting and identifying plants, and creating herbal remedies.

Next, you’ll need to eat 10 plants. However, you want to make sure you aren’t eating the poisonous versions of them. There will be a regular and a toxic version of each plant. You can eat any of the regular ones and will get positive moodlets for each. You can eat things like chamomile, elderberry, huckleberry, etc.

Finally, you’ll need. to cook 2 plates of beetles over a campfire. You need to go around Granite Falls and find beetles and click on them to catch them. Then, find a campfire and choose to roast something and you’ll be able to choose the beetles that you have caught.

Level Three: Wilderness Explorer

  • Craft 3 Excellent Herbal Remedies
  • Identify All Unidentified Plants
  • Befriend the Hermit of Granite Falls

When you’re working on herbalism and want to craft an excellent remedy, you first want to make sure your skill is rather high. In the last stage of this aspiration you’ll need to get to herbalism level 10, so you can start getting it higher now to get a head start.

Then, once you go to craft a potion try and make yourself in a good mood because in The Sims 4, your sims mood is directly related to the quality level of all items (i.e., remedies, paintings, books, etc).

You’ll need to identify all of the unidentified plants that are present within Granite Falls, the best way to do this is to locate the Hermit’s House because most of them will be hanging around on the ground there and you can get this done rather easy.

Finally, You’ll need to befriend the hermit that lives in Granite Falls as well to complete the aspiration. There is a person who is living in a hidden area inside Granite Falls that isn’t found easily, you’ll need to do a bit of work.

You can learn more about the hermit here.

Level Four: Outdoor Enthusiast

  • Achieve Level 10 of Herbalism
  • Sleep for 5 Nights in a Tent
  • Collect 15 Insects

Since you’ll be spending a lot of your time in Granite Falls you’ll need to spend at least 5 of those nights inside a tent, and not in one of the cottages. This will happen easily since you’ll be there so much.

You’ll also need to collect 15 insects. You’ll find these on the ground or flying around in granite falls. Clicking on them will give you the option to catch them and they will land in your inventory.

Finally, you need to get to herbalism level 10. If you want to learn more about herbalism, you can check out our guide to herbalism to see everything you need to do to get that done.

Final Thoughts

The outdoor retreat game pack is a lot of fun in The Sims 4. Camping and spending time outdoors is a fun weekend activity for sims families that can be done for a short period, or heck, get everyone to take vacation time and never come home. Finishing the outdoor enthusiast aspiration can be a nice challenge and a change of pace from regular gameplay.

  1. The completed the Freelance Botanist aspiration and visited Granite Falls, looking for all of the new plants for my own garden. Now I’m stuck on level one of trying to harvest 10 unidentified plants. Well, I already identified them all. Does this mean I can’t complete this aspiration?

    1. Let me try that again. I completed the Freelance Botanist aspiration. Now I am attempting the Outdoor Enthusiast aspiration, but have already identified all of the new plans in Granite Falls and am stuck at level one of the aspiration.

  2. actually the least easiest aspiration to complete. they dont explain how you cant just take cuttings from all unknown plants and graft to a plant on your lot. its actually so confusing. ive been casually trying to finish this aspiration ever since this pack came out. they dont explain that you have to take vacations over and over and over and over again. im about to take my FOURTH camping trip and its exhausting skimming over the SAME areas each and every day for a week just to end up not finding the plant you need/ its all very very stupid
