The Sims 4: Familiars (Realm of Magic)

Familiars were a fun addition to being a spellcaster and can actually save your sim from death! These magical beings will float around you as you walk around the magic realm or other worlds and can help you gain more experience.

When your sim has a familiar bound to them they are going to be feeling confident. The best part? Even a child sim who is not yet a full blown spellcaster can have a familiar bound to them which will protect them from death.

Where to Get Familiars

There are 11 familiars to collect in the game and thankfully you don’t just have to buy them all. There are 3 ways to find a familiar in the game. The first, is to purchase them from the familiar shop in Caster’s Alley.

You can also win them during a duel with another sim if you choose to duel for artifacts. You’ll get the familiar orb in your inventory.

Finally, you can find familiars by clicking on any bookcases inside Magic HQ and choose to search for tomes. You can also find tome books to learn new spells this way too, but you can’t just perform this interaction a ton of times in a row.

How to Bind Familiars

When you finally have the orb of a familiar in your sim’s inventory you can click on it and choose to bind familiar. Doing this will trigger a popup to appear where you can rename the familiar to whatever you like, or choose the name that has be chosen by the game.

Once you hit ok in this popup the familiar will be bound to your spellcaster and you can choose to summon them at any time.

You also have the option to unbind a familiar from your particular sim. This will make it so that the familiar orb appears back in your sim’s inventory and can be bound back to this sim or to another sim of your choosing.

How to Summon Familiars

You can choose to summon a familiar from the magic menu when you click on your sim. When you do this a popup will appear allowing you to choose from all of the familiars that you have bound to your sim.

Doing this will get the familiar to appear above your sim and it will follow you around protecting you from death!

Using Cats and Dogs as Familiars

If you have The Sims 4: Cats and Dogs downloaded in your game, you’ll have the option to bind your cat or dog as a familiar. It has to be a pet that is currently in your household, so you aren’t able to just choose a random stray from Brindleton Bay.

To bind your cat or dog as a familiar you just need to click on the pet and go to the magic menu and choose bind pet as familiar. Your cat or dog will now have a bit of a glow that shows that they are now a little bit magical.

One thing that’s awesome about having a pet as a familiar instead of the ones that came with Realm of Magic is that you can send these pets out to go search the world for supplies. They’ll bring back wands, brooms, or even some ingredients for potion making.

  1. There is one more (very limited) method for acquiring a couple of familiars. In the Magic Realm building, there are two Familiar Orbs. You can’t put them in your inventory, but they can be bound directly. You can only do this once, however, as the Orb disappears once it’s been bound and they don’t respawn.
