The Sims 4: Painter Career Guide
The painter career is one of the first careers introduced in The Sims 4 and is a really awesome one if you want to make money on the side while also working through a career. It has some really great rewards that are available to your sim as they progress through the career, especially the rustic bed!
Sims who choose the painter career must be creative if they really want to. thrive and get through the career rather quickly and successfully.
Aspiration for the Painter Career
There’s usually an aspiration that works well with each career in the game, and the painter career is no exception.
Painter Extraordinaire Aspiration
The painter extraordinaire aspiration is great for a sim who is working through the painter career because it will help guide your sim through becoming a better painter. You’ll be able to gain lots of satisfaction points through doing your daily tasks and you can use these points on reward store items to help you gain skills more quickly.
Traits for the Painter Career
I’ve always found it helpful to know which traits are going to be helpful to a sim in each career, and the following traits are awesome for a sim who wants to be a painter.
Creative
The best way for a sim to create high quality paintings is to be inspired. Creative sims are going to get random inspired moodlets and become more inspired from painting.
Outgoing
The outgoing trait is good for a sim going down the patron of the arts branch because you’ll eventually need to work on your charisma skill and talking to other sims is a great way to gain the skill!
Genius
The genius trait may be a good option since in the master of the real branch of this career you’re going to need to work on the logic skill and you gain logic quickest if you are focused, genius sims are focused more often.
Lot Traits To Help in the Painter Career
Lot traits are a really awesome way for your sim to gain skills more quickly when on their home lot and to focus on the things that matter to them. The following lot traits are really awesome for a sim who is in the painter career.
Home Studio
The home studio lot trait is always a good option for painters because it helps your sim gain the painting skill more quickly and can get them to be more inspired since it gives inspired moodlets while they are painting.
Convivial
If you want your sim to go down the Patron of the Arts branch of this career you should consider the convivial lot trait. This one is going to help you gain the charisma skill because it makes social interactions go more smoothly.
Science Lair
If you decide to go into the Master of the Real branch of the painter career you’ll need to gain the logic skill, so choosing the science lair lot trait may be a good option. This one will help you gain the logic skill more quickly.
Painter Career Levels
“Create your own world with a few strokes of a brush! Make a place for yourself in the art world with hyperreal masterpieces or abstract works of unsettling beauty.”
The daily task of the painter career is just to. paint paintings which is super simple and will make you some money in the process. You’ll only need to focus on the painting skill for the beginning of this career which makes it really easy to get promoted compared to some other careers.
One of the best parts about joining the painter career is that you unlock the ability to sell your paintings to the art gallery instead of just to a collector. This allows you to make more money from your paintings than if you were unemployed or in. another career.
In this career, you’ll also unlock the ability to hire an agent. This agent will be able to get you bonus money every few days so you can earn a bit of extra cash. I’ve also noticed that you can make extra money from creating masterpieces with the agent.

Painter Career Unlocks (Before Branch)
Every single career in The Sims 4 has cool unlock items that you’ll get access to as you progress through it. The painter career has some really beautiful items that can make any home studio a dream.
You’ll be able to unlock the picture perfect art lighting that lights up any art on your wall beautifully and allows you to really see it. Then, you’ll unlock the study of the human form which can be an awesome addition to any studio wall.
You’ll also unlock the easy breezy easel which is awesome because it will help you create higher quality paintings than the original build mode easel. You’ll also get the painting canvas storage rack which can really make your office look fancy, and finally the vase of sunflowers which are just a beautiful home decor item.
Master of the Real Branch
“You have Real Talent, and now others are starting to recognize it. Live your art, treat it with gravitas, and all the world shall follow.”
The best part about this branch is that you’ll get to unlock the deluxe all season easel which is the best easel in the game. Unlocking this will help you create more masterpieces and make more money from painting.
The daily task for the master of the real branch is going to be to paint paintings which is super simple and great because you can make money by selling these paintings in the process.
You’re going to need to focus on both the painting skill as well as the logic skill in this career. You can do this by practicing chess on the chess table which can be worked on a little bit each day in. between creating art.

Master of the Real Branch Unlocks
The best item you’re going to get in this branch is the easel, but the rest is cool too! First, in both branches you’ll unlock the artiste supply taboret which is a nice set of drawers with painting supplies on top.
You’ll unlock the deluxe all season easel which is helpful and has the best painting quality of all the easels in the game so this may make it all worth choosing this branch.
You’ll also unlock the premium prima ballerina statue which is a weird one unless you really like ballerinas. I think it can look cute if you size it down and put it on a shelf. And finally, you’ll unlock the flegel studio floor lamp to add a nice spotlight on objects.
Patron of the Arts Branch
“Your taste in art is impeccable, and you can make Great Things happen. Show off what you know as a Patron of the Arts.”
In this branch, you’re obviously going to need to focus on the painting skill, but you’ll also need to put some effort into building up your charisma skill. You can do this through practicing a speech through the mirror or by talking to other sims.
Your daily task in this branch is going to be to create paintings which is straightforward which is always nice. You just need to paint for a few hours and it’s really great since you can make money this way as well.

Patron of the Arts Branch Unlocks
The patron of the arts branch has a couple interesting unlocks, but they aren’t quite the most exciting things in the game. You’ll unlock a stack of canvases that can be leaned against a wall which look rather cool.
In both branches you’ll unlock the artist supply taboret, a set of drawers that has painting supplies on top. You’ll unlock the pre owned painter’s easel which is nice and . better quality than the easel you unlock in the first part of this career, however, it’s not going to be as high quality as the other branch’s easel!
Finally, you’ll unlock the rustic dream bed which is a random one for a career focused on painting, but hey, beds are nice to have and this is one of the best ones in the game.
Final Thoughts
